The way our people operate is embodied in our four Guiding Principles: Enterprising Spirit, Freedom Through Responsibility, Open Minded and Strength from Diversity. These principles underpin our culture and guide how we deliver our strategy.

The culture of the Group is about developing talent from within, stretching and supporting the high performing managers who will lead the delivery of our strategy. In 2016, over 93% of our senior appointments were drawn from people already within the business – moves that have helped deliver strong and diverse leadership teams.

When we do recruit externally, we seek to bring in people who will bring additional knowledge and skills that will strengthen our teams and ultimately make us a stronger business. We have expanded the digital reach and reputation of our employer brand ‘Bring your Difference’ across core social media channels, achieving industry leadership of our talent brand on LinkedIn.

Providing a safe place to work, protecting our employees’ wellbeing and listening to their views are also fundamental.

Top Employer 2017

We are proud of the external recognition we receive each year for our standing as a leading employer in countries worldwide. In 2017, The Top Employers Institute named us as a Top Employer in Europe for the seventh consecutive year and we were equally proud to be also certified as a Top Employer in major markets such as Brazil, Russia and South Africa.

Top Employer certification recognises companies that create an environment for their employees to develop, both professionally and personally. After completion of an HR Best Practices Survey, the Top Employers Institute determines which organisations have reached the standards required to earn this prestigious recognition.

Companies that achieve it in several countries may be eligible for Top Employer certification at a regional level. In 2017, we were proud to achieve certification in all of our 12 participating countries* in Europe and to be named as a Top Employer Europe once again.

And in October 2017 we were named as a Top Employer Africa 2018, after gaining certification in South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Kenya and Nigeria.
